BURN BAN
An open-air burn ban goes into effect in Dorchester County on October 18, 2024 at 8:00 a.m.
WHEREAS, due to drought-like conditions, the Dorchester County Council has placed an open air burning ban in effect for all of Dorchester County, Maryland; and
WHEREAS, all open air burning is prohibited in Dorchester County with the exception of the following:
(1) gas, charcoal grills or fire pits.
(2) the supervised burning of buildings or solid liquid, or gaseous fuels conducted under the direct control and supervision of qualified instructors at a training center organized by a fire department.
(3) Any other supervised burning conducted under the direct control and supervision of qualified fire instructors or a fire chief, captain or fire line officer of a fire department that has fire jurisdiction over the area where the supervised burning occurs.
WHEREAS, the effective date of this Resolution shall be the 18th day of October, 2024 at 8:00 am.
WHEREAS, any person violating the open air burning ban is guilty of a misdemeanor and shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined no less than fifty dollars ($50.00), no more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) for each such violation.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, we the County Council of Dorchester County, Maryland, by virtue of this resolution, do hereby declare an open air burning ban to promote the peace, health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Dorchester County, Maryland.
