Job Summary
The County Engineer will design, plan, and supervise the construction of infrastructure projects such as buildings, bridges, roads, airport, pipelines, water, wetland, stormwater, sewage systems and other projects. Engineer will provide supervisory and technical guidance to project engineers and technical support staff related to municipal water and sewer mains, pump stations, storm drains, grinder pumps, etc.

Primary responsibilities include:
• Manage design efforts related to sewer infrastructure, repair and replacement projects.
• Use design software and drawing tools to accurately render and communicate designs.
• Prepare construction improvement plans and manage construction of pump stations, sewer pipe extensions and replacements.
• Plan projects based on the analysis of relevant materials.
• Draft and presents reports on topics related to projects, to include materials, equipment, and labor needed to determine project costs.
• Collaborate and monitor progress with architects, contractors and surveyors to ensure projects progress, constructions affects, safety, sanitation standards, compliance, etc.
• Oversee forest conservation, erosion and sediment control enforcement programs.
• Review private site development plans for compliance with stormwater management and water and sewer regulations.
• Review construction improvement plans for development projects within FEMA’s 110-year non-tidal floodplain with regard to impacts on flood elevations and stream flow conveyances.
• Review subdivision applications for compliance.
• Maintain regular contact with consulting engineers, construction project managers, State and Federal agencies, professional and technical groups and the general public.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Licensure as Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
• 5-8 years’ work experience in engineering project management.
• 3-5 years’ experience in local government.
• Proficient in CAD and other design, data recording, and analyzation software.
• Thorough understanding of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings, bridges, roads, and other related structures and required safety regulations related to projects.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to be both creative and analytical.
• Extremely detail-oriented and accurate.

Physical Requirements
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
• Must be able to travel to various project sites.
• Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
