Salary: $18.22/hour

Job Summary
The purpose of this job is to be responsible for performing routine and complex clerical, office, and administrative work in the Detention Center.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions
• Answers telephone and transfers calls, addresses needs, and responds to inquiries within the Detention Center.
• Prepares, edits, copies and/or types of correspondence, memoranda, reports or other related materials; assists staff with developing and implementing procedures and practices; assists with other projects and events as necessary.
• Scans and files all Facility paperwork. Files for the Correctional audits.
• Receives, processes, forwards to appropriate staff or replies to incoming mail, telephone calls and correspondence for the Warden.
• Screens complaint calls; resolves related issues or refers complainant to appropriate staff, while ensuring the Warden is aware of all known service issues.
• Prepares letters, forms, reports and other correspondence for the Administrative Staff and completes correspondence for mailings to other agencies.
• Handles all incoming mail, logs mail into the systems and records all outgoing mail.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Education/Experience/Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED (vocational or technical training preferred) with two years of administrative experience required; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job.
• Microsoft experience (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
• Excellent communication and people skills
• Ability to communicate and work with outside agencies.
• Familiarity with organizational software, technology, and trends.
• A valid Maryland driver’s license is preferred.
• Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including a computer, copier, telephone, and communications equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting 20 pounds, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
• Must be able to exert up to fifty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to twenty pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for light work.

Physical Requirements:
• Clear vision and hearing, including the ability to communicate effectively in various environments

Other:
• May be required to work on religious holidays
• Regular and predictable attendance is required
• Must work cooperatively with others
• When position requires vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by Dorchester’s safe driving policy
