Position Title:  Grant Accountant

Pay Grade: $47,042 – $63,266

Purpose of Position:

The purpose of this position is to provide accounting and recordkeeping support for the County’s grants program, and to assist the Finance Department with other accounting and audit functions, as needed.

 

Essential Job Functions:

· Manages grant program funding and guides procedures and practices for assigned internal and external stakeholders throughout each stage of the grant administration.

· Monitors the grant funding and reporting compliance cycle(s).

· Completes required daily journal entries for proper general ledger accounting (including banking items, credit cards, expenditure realignment, etc.).

· Ensures efficient and effective grants program and fund management, and other grant administration functions. Monitors budget preparation specifically related to grant funds.

· Analyzes and reconciles various accounts including Grant Bank Account.

· Participates in county wide development and implementation sessions; coordinates and maintains documentation, including standardized processes and procedures as they relate to grants.

· Oversees the negotiation activities with receipts coordination to prevent lapse of funds.

· Maintains departmental coordination with other accountant(s) and department heads.

· Engages collaborative working relationships with assigned internal and external stakeholders.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education/Experience/Certifications (minimum qualifications):

· Bachelor’s degree with three years of experience in accounting required to effectively perform the positions responsibilities or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job.

· Prior grant related work experience preferred.

· Microsoft experience (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

· Excellent communication and people skills

· Ability to navigate stakeholder relationships and regulatory environments.

· Familiarity with grants and finance software, technology, and trends.

 

Physical requirements and working environment:

· Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including a computer, copier, telephone, and communications equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

· Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to ten pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for light work.

· Clear vision and hearing, including the ability to communicate effectively in various environments.

Other:

· May be required to work on religious holidays.

· Regular and predictable attendance is required.

· Must work cooperatively with others.

· When position requires vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by Dorchester’s safe driving policy.
