State of Maryland Position with benefits
Salary Range: $56,743 – $91,107 (to be determined by State of Maryland)

This position is responsible for managing the entire operations of the Dorchester County Assessment Office. This involves the management and oversite of the valuation of real property in compliance with laws, policies, procedures and standards set by the State of Maryland. This position oversees the daily operations of the office to include the supervision of office clerical staff and professional tax assessors. This position is responsible for responding to inquiries from the general public that often involve highly technical issues relating to property valuation and legal issues.

The successful applicant will be required to understand, apply and explain applicable Maryland tax laws to a variety of both internal and external customers. This position works with news media, the general public, State legislators, the County Council, the Property Tax Appeal Board, the Maryland Tax Court and Circuit Court.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferably in business.
Experience: Five years in a responsible management position or in the valuation of real property.
Prefer experience in development of goals and implementation of processes to improve practices that ensure responsive and customer oriented services; experience in effective staff development and leadership, including effective hiring and evaluations; experience with the principles and practices of public administration, governmental accounting, budgeting and staff management; experience with a broad variety of governmental services, including real property valuation; and experience in working with citizen boards and state hearing processes.
Note: Additional experience in management or real property valuation may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.

Residency in Dorchester County required. If successful applicant not currently a resident must relocate within 6 months of hire date.
