This position is responsible for the daily supervision of the assigned shift operations, activities and personnel of the Dorchester County 911 Communications Center. This position is required to perform a wide range of performance management and personnel supervision duties including but not limited to team building, conflict resolution, coaching, counselling, discipline, training and mentoring of 911 Center Dispatchers. Incumbents in this position are expected to demonstrate positive leadership and communications teamwork as well as demonstrating the ability to resolve issues and concerns applying critical decision thinking in a positive and proactive manner. This position is responsible for implementing the Quality Assurance standard as per the National Academy Emergency Dispatch Protocols. This position is essential to the operations of the 911 Center. All employees are considered essential employees and are required to report to work as scheduled and/or when called in to do so, for example during significant weather events.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four (4) years of supervisory experience in a Public Safety Answering Point and/or 911 Dispatcher Communication Center including administration of CAD, emergency phone systems and 700 and/or 800 MHz trunked radio systems or ten (10) years of supervisory experience within the Public Safety field.

Must already have or be able to obtain: NENA Courses – Leadership in the 911 Center, 911 Center Supervisor Program, Center Training Officer Program and Center Manager Certification Program.

Must be proficient in public safety dispatch operations, policies and procedures, computer aided dispatch and Dorchester County’s geography. Must be current on all 911 training and certifications. Must be able to obtain any required certifications that does not currently hold, such as METERS/NCIC, IAED EMD/EPD/EFD, CPR, ICS 300 & 400, etc.

Must be proficient in the use of computer applications including but not limited to Microsoft products, spreadsheets, internet search functions and basic typing skills.

Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, and Other Special Requirements:

A valid Maryland Driver’s license.
